Firewall Upgrade: VPN with IKEv2 and Post-Quantum Protection
Intra2net Security Gateway 7.1 offers future-proof encryption methods for small and medium-sized businesses
Tübingen, June 15, 2026 - Groupware and security specialist Intra2net (www.intra2net.com) has released Intra2net Security Gateway 7.1. The new version focuses on protection against future threats posed by quantum computers: By implementing post-quantum cryptography in conjunction with the IKEv2 protocol, the firewall upgrade offers a future-proof VPN infrastructure for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
With the release of version 7.1, Intra2net addresses one of the most critical challenges in modern IT security: the “harvest now, decrypt later” scenario. In this scenario, attackers store encrypted data streams today with the intention of decrypting them in a few years using the computing power of quantum computers. The Intra2net Security Gateway counters this threat by supporting the fast IKEv2 protocol in combination with post-quantum protection in accordance with RFC 8784 via post-quantum pre-shared keys.
Modern encryption and improved usability
The Security Gateway upgrade includes support for modern encryption algorithms such as AES-256-GCM, ChaCha20-Poly1305, and Curve25519. In addition, the built-in open-source VPN component has been updated to the latest version 6 of strongSwan.
Simplified workflows for setting up IPsec VPNs reduce complexity for administrators. New connections for Android, iOS, and Windows automatically use IKEv2 via a predefined default profile.
Compliance and Regulatory Implications
“Implementing post-quantum cryptography is not a luxury, but essential for protecting sensitive data,” explains Steffen Jarosch, CEO of Intra2net AG. “The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) recommends phasing out traditional asymmetric encryption methods for sensitive data by the end of 2031. With Security Gateway 7.1, we are already providing SMEs with the technological foundation to transition to quantum-secure methods early on.”

Intra2net Security Gateway is a Unified Threat Management (UTM) solution designed to protect networks, Internet access, and email communications. The Security Gateway offers a multi-layered firewall, secure VPN for home offices, mobile devices, and remote locations, spam and virus protection, and flexible web and access control.
The solution is based on a security-optimized version of Linux and can be flexibly deployed on your own systems, as a virtual appliance, or on the hardware appliances offered by Intra2net.
Prices and Availability
Intra2net Security Gateway 7.1 is now available. A 10-user license, including 12 months of software maintenance, is priced at €330 (MSRP) plus VAT.
